PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To increase the amount of information which can be accumulated in a sub-database by making the capacity of a field in which offsets are stored smaller than a conventional manner. SOLUTION: A variable length offset rewriting device rewrites offsets by storing offsets in a base section B with specified data length including: a base data area B2 as a data area from a low order digit; and an extension flag area B1 in which an extension flag is set when any extended data area other than the base data area B2 is used, and storing the residual offsets which have not been stored in the base data area B2 in an extension section E as a data area. When the extension flag is not set, the data stored in the base data area B 2 are obtained as offsets, and when the extension flag is set, the data stored in the base data area B2 and the data stored in the extension section E are connected and obtained as offsets and a sub-database is accessed.
