<P>PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a cap fitting structure of a writing instrument, in particular, an expensive writing implement (e.g. a fountain pen), wherein an appropriate resistant feeling in fitting a cap to a shaft tube provides quiet fitting feeling with a high quality, the occupancy space of a component in the cap for the parts can be saved, the total length of the cap can be shortened, and there is no restriction on the design of the cap. <P>SOLUTION: The cap fitting structure slidingly holds the shaft tube by the fitting means fitting the cap to the shaft tube and an elastic part set to a mounting assist member 22 disposed in the cap. The mounting assist member 22 comprises an annular part and a reduced part 22b with a diameter gradually reduced from one end of the annular part 22a toward the center.
