PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a detection apparatus, a detection method and a detection program capable of performing robust matching process. SOLUTION: The detection apparatus sets a plurality of local regions in an object included in a reference image, and calculates a distance from a reference point, which is provided in the local region, to an edge which resides in a direction from the reference point, and direction information pertaining to the direction of the edge, as an amount of feature, in association with the direction from the reference point. The apparatus also sets a plurality of local regions in an arbitrary image, and calculates a distance and direction information, in association with the direction, as an amount of local feature of each local region. Further, the apparatus detects the object from the arbitrary image by determining a degree of agreement between the amount of local feature calculated by a first calculator and the amount of local feature calculated by a second calculator.
