PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a crane replacing apparatus and a method for replacing a crane using the crane replacing apparatus, which enable replacement of an aging overhead crane with a new overhead crane in a short period of time. SOLUTION: The crane replacing apparatus includes a movement frame 3 for moving a new or an installed crane between a first frame 1 and a second frame 2, the first frame 1 being disposed on the extension of a runway girder 20 on which the overhead crane runs and the second frame 2 being disposed in parallel to the first frame 1. The method for replacing the crane includes a step of assembling the new overhead crane 12 on the first frame 1 or the second frame 2, a step of moving the installed overhead crane 11 on the runway girder to either the first frame 1 or the second frame 2 which is vacant by the movement frame 3, and a step of moving the newly assembled crane 12 to the runway girder 20 by the movement frame 3.
