PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a camera that provides excellent operability, in switching from a power-off state to a photographing standby state, by executing only a simple and intuitive operation, without requiring any troublesome operation. SOLUTION: The camera includes an imaging part 16, a display part 18; a three-direction acceleration sensor 11 for detecting the vibrations in the three directions of the camera 1; a determining part 12 for periodically determining the output of the three-direction acceleration sensor; and a control part 10 for controlling the three-direction acceleration sensor, according to the determination result of the determining part. The determining part determines a posture change to the attitude in a vertical direction, when the camera is held for taking a picture. The control part further finely controls a determination period of the three-direction acceleration sensor, according to the determination result of the determining part.
