In particular, the invention relates to sphinganine-1-phosphate, a sphingolipid metabolite, and its use in the diagnosing, preventing, and/or treating ischemia reperfusion-associated disorders, including, without limitation, disorders of the kidney, liver, lung, brain, and heart.
