<P>PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a method for treating degenerative disorders of muscle or bone. <P>SOLUTION: There are disclosed new antibodies against growth and differentiation factor-8 (GDF-8), in particular human antibodies, and antibody fragments, including those that inhibit GDF-8 activity in vitro and/or in vivo. There are also disclosed methods for diagnosing, preventing, or treating degenerative disorders of muscle or bone, or disorders of insulin metabolism. There are further disclosed new human anti-GDF-8 antibodies, designated as Myo29, Myo28 or Myo22, antibodies derived from these antibodies, and antigen-binding fragments.
