<P>PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a system which releases surgical buttress from an arcuate profile of a tissue contacting surface of a cartridge and/or an anvil during operation of surgical stapling apparatus. <P>SOLUTION: The surgical stapling apparatus includes: a cartridge assembly defining a tissue contacting surface and an elongate longitudinal slot; an anvil assembly defining a tissue contacting surface and an elongate longitudinal slot; and a surgical buttress releasably secured to at least one of the tissue contacting surface of a selected one of the anvil assembly and the staple cartridge by at least one anchor, and defining a notch formed in a proximal edge thereof substantially aligned with the elongate longitudinal slot of each of the cartridge assembly and the anvil assembly. <P>COPYRIGHT: (C)2010,JPO&INPIT |
