PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a liquid crystal display preventing small bright spots from developing. SOLUTION: The liquid crystal display has a first substrate, a second substrate arranged facing the first substrate, a liquid crystal material disposed between the first and second substrates, a number of columnar spacers and a first orientation film both disposed on the first substrate, an insulation layer disposed on the second substrate, and a second orientation film formed on this insulation layer. Further, a columnar spacer receiver made of a material different from any one of the insulation layer and the second orientation film is disposed between the insulating layer and the second orientation film and facing the columnar spacers. The thickness of the second orientation film at the area formed above the columnar spacer receiver is one third or less of the thickness at the area directly on the insulation layer.
