PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a medium conveying device smoothly delivering and conveying a medium. SOLUTION: This medium conveying device includes: a delivery opening 40 delivering a plurality of sheets from multiple sheets of a medium 2 stacked in a stacker 3; a delivering means 4 provided in the lowest part of the stacker 3 to convey the medium 2 to deliver from the delivery opening 40; a first motor 7 for driving the delivering means 4; a plurality of conveying rollers 9, 10 and 11 provided below the delivery opening 40 to receive the plurality of sheets of the medium 2 from the delivery opening 40 to convey them; a second motor 12 for driving the conveying rollers; a separating roller 13 opposite to the conveying roller 11 in the most downstream part and rotating in the reverse direction; a first sensor 22 detecting the staying of a predetermined quantity of the medium 2 on a conveyance passage C formed of a plurality of conveying rollers; and a first control means 35 controlling the first motor 7 to be stopped based on a detecting signal from the first sensor 22.
