<P>PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide an acidic thickener giving a plain refreshing sense of use which is not given by a cosmetic using a conventional thickener, and to provide a cosmetic containing the acidic thickener. Ž<P>SOLUTION: The acidic thickener is characterized by containing a free body of poly-γ-L-glutamic acid cross-linked product, and the cosmetic is characterized by containing the acidic thickener.
