<P>PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a system and a method for increasing the number of frequency-steps by at least three or four times, in a laser diode. Ž<P>SOLUTION: The system is configured so that a light of a laser diode is optically coupled to grating by a collimator lens, and the length of an external cavity is integral number of times the laser diode cavity, a grating angle is rotated with respect to a grating rotating axis for four different currents I1(610), I2(620), I3(630) and I4(640) and a set of fine frequency-steps is obtained.
