<P>PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide an anti-reflection coating having excellent anti-reflection properties even to light with a wide incident angle, and to provide an optical element having the anti-reflection coating. <P>SOLUTION: The anti-reflection coating 2 is formed on the surface 11 of a base material 1 and is composed of a plurality of layers. The refractive index of the base material 1 and each layer is reduced in order from the base material 1. The difference in the refractive index between each layer and the layer adjoining thereto and between the base material 1 and the layer 21 coming in contact therewith is 0.02 to 0.2, the physical layer thickness of each layer is 15 to 200 nm, and at least two layers formed on the side of an incident medium in each layer are (a) porous layers and have (b) different porosities. <P>COPYRIGHT: (C)2006,JPO&NCIPI |
