Blocking subterranean formations in the extraction of fossil oil and/or gas, comprises introducing water-absorbent particles into porous and fluid-conducting rock formations, where the particles are water swellable, crosslinked and water-insoluble polymers, and the particles in the water-conducting rock formation ultimately suppress the fluid flow through the rock layers by absorption of water. The absorbent particles are superabsorbing polymers (SAP) having anionic and/or cationic properties and a time-delayed swelling effect.
|
