A brush arrangement (4) on an electric machine (1), in particular on an electric domestic appliance, has a brush sleeve (6) which holds the carbon brush (7) and can be fixed to the housing (2) of the machine in a use position. The invention makes provision for the brush arrangement (4) to have catch means by means of which the brush sleeve (6) can be locked in a safety position when it leaves the use position. The invention advantageously prevents the brush sleeve (6) from moving beyond the safety position if it is released as a result of a fault. In particular, the invention can ensure that the prescribed electrical safety distances are maintained even in the event of a fault.
