<p>PURPOSE: A field emission device and a manufacturing method thereof are provided to reduce manufacturing costs by forming a metal electrode using an electroless plating method on a substrate, thereby removing a vacuum deposition process and an exposure process. CONSTITUTION: At least one groove(105) is formed in a substrate. A metal electrode(110) is formed in the bottom side of a groove. A carbon nanotube emitter(130) comprises an intermetallic compound layer formed on the metal electrode and a carbon nanotubes formed on the intermetallic compound layer. A carbon nanotube emitter comprises a fired paste in which a carbon nanotube and an organic binder are included. A carbon nanotube(135) is formed in order to be exposed to the outside of the plasticized paste.</p>
