PURPOSE: A fume removal apparatus for a remote laser welding machine and a control method thereof are provided to improve laser welding quality by maintaining energy density of laser beam. CONSTITUTION: A fume removal apparatus for a remote laser welding machine comprises a duct unit(20), a discharger, and a welding jig position sensing unit. The duct unit is installed under the frame of a welding machine and comprises a fixed duct(23) and a movable duct(25) which is vertically moved by a cylinder. The discharger is connected to one side of the fixed duct through an exhaust pipe and sucks and discharges welding fume inside the duct unit. The welding jig position sensing unit is formed on a side of a rail frame to sense that the welding jig is located in a welding position and output a corresponding signal to a controller.
