<P>PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide an optical amplifier with low cost capable of effectively suppressing optical surges without complicating configurations in a controlling circuit and optical circuit. <P>SOLUTION: The optical-surge suppressive optical amplifier suppresses an optical surge by utilizing degradation in output efficiency due to pair-induced quench (PIQ) generated at rising of input power, by applying an optically-amplifying medium for causing the PIQ phenomenon to an optically-amplifying meanns at a signal-light inputting side, with respect to a single-wave optical amplifier with multistage amplification configuration including a plurality of optically-amplifying means connected in series. <P>COPYRIGHT: (C)2010,JPO&INPIT |
