<P>PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To detect weak light without cooling a light receiving unit to extremely low temperature. Ž<P>SOLUTION: A method of detecting weak light includes: the first measurement step of obtaining a first light reception signal by receiving light radiated by a first sample for measuring background light by a first light receiver; the second measurement step of obtaining a second light reception signal by receiving light radiated by a second sample for measuring background light by a second light receiver; the first operation recording step of obtaining a first difference between the first light reception signal and the second light reception signal for recording; the third measurement step of obtaining a third light reception signal by receiving light radiated by a third sample including a phosphor by the first light receiver; the fourth measurement step of obtaining a fourth light reception signal by receiving light radiated by a fourth sample for measuring background light by the second light receiver; the second operation recording step of obtaining a second difference between the third and fourth light reception signals for recording; and the third operation recording step of obtaining a third difference obtained by subtracting the first difference from the second difference for recording.
