<P>PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To solve such problems that a molding die in itself for an optical element corrodes and handling is difficult as strong acids such as hydrochloric acid, sulfuric acid, nitric acid and the like are used for cleaning deposits on the molding surface of the molding die for the optical element caused by volatile matter from a glass material for molding. Ž<P>SOLUTION: The molding die for the optical element to press-mold the glass material for molding whose main component is phosphoric acid is cleaned by phosphoric acid. The volatile matter from the glass material for molding whose main component is phosphoric acid is easily dissolved by phosphoric acid.
