PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To prevent an instantaneous interruption of communication when performing redundant switching in a communication system having a redundant configuration. SOLUTION: In a station side device 1a, each optical line unit 12 transmits a downstream communication signal to a plurality of home side devices 2 via an optical switch 11a and receives upstream communication signals from the plurality of home side devices 2 via the optical switch 11a. A control unit 14 controls switching timing of the optical switch 11a and transmission timing of the plurality of home side devices 2 so as to prevent the optical switch 11a from receiving any upstream communication signal which is from the plurality of home side devices 2 during a switching shift period from the start of switching by the optical switch 11a to the end of switching, which is from a communication route for output of a downstream communication signal received from a switching source optical line unit 12 to a passive optical network 3 to a communication route for output of a downstream communication signal received from a switching destination optical line unit 12 to the passive optical network 3.
