PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To prevent deterioration of a belt, and also effectively remove a discharge product deposited on the belt. SOLUTION: An intermediate transfer belt 32 is not heated, thereby prevents the deterioration of the belt. A cleaning roll 42 is brought into contact with the intermediate transfer belt 32 at an upper stream side of a drive roll 34 to thereby come into contact with a portion of the intermediate transfer belt 32 with high tension. Accordingly, the adhesion between the intermediate transfer belt 32 and the cleaning roll 42 is improved, even if a member opposing to the cleaning roll 42 across the intermediate transfer belt 32 is not present.
