PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To easily and surely pull out an optical module from a cage when releasing an engaged state between the optical module and the case. SOLUTION: The optical module includes a case 7 in which an element to perform optical communication is provided inside; a locking member 16, which is engaged with the cage 3 for housing a case 7; a pivot 17 for rotatably supporting the locking member 16; and a coil spring 18 for energizing the locking member 16, in a rotating direction in which the locking member 16 is engaged with the cage 3. The locking member 16 is constituted of a locking part 26a, and which is engaged with a lock hole 27a and a lock part 16a provided in the cage 3 and a contact part 16b with which a lock release member 20 comes into contact serving to release the engaged state between the locking part and the lock hole 27a.
