The pressing device (1) has a pressing arrangement (5) forming a pressing gap (2), through which a material web (M) is guided, where two coverings (6,7) are so arranged and guided, that these form a guiding area (30) supporting the material web on both sides in the web of material flow direction along a partial area of the circulating track before the pressing gap. A heating or energy input device (9) is arranged on the inner periphery or the inner sides (6I,7I) of one of the coverings in the common guiding area for input of energy in the material by a carrier medium. An independent claim is also included for a method for increasing the dry content of a web of material.
