<P>PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To increase display luminance of a high grayscale without entailing an increase in cost and without spoiling moving image responsiveness. <P>SOLUTION: For image display of fireworks or the universe, i.e. image display having a high grayscale partially in a background of a low grayscale, a time of signal writing by a write transistor is made shorter at a display part of the high grayscale than at other display parts. As the time of signal writing becomes shorter, the gate-source voltage Vgs of a driving transistor at the end of the signal writing period becomes high (Vgs1→Vgs2) and a current flowing to an organic EL element increases in value correspondingly.
