PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide methods and kits for obtaining a prognosis for a patient having or at risk of developing an inflammatory condition. SOLUTION: The are provided methods for obtaining a prognosis for the patient having or at risk of developing the inflammatory condition wherein the methods comprise determining a genotype that expresses the ability of the patient to recover from the inflammatory condition in the genotype including one or two or more polymorphism portions of the protein C gene of a patient.
