A gas-tight sealed accumulator which may be used for smoothing and stabilization purposes in electric circuits is provided with electrodes having the same active material which is normally used for negative electrodes, e.g. cadmium oxide or hydroxide. The electrolyte is held in porous separators, and the electrodes project into the gas space to absorb gases evolved when the cell is in use. Fig. 1 shows a cell with two sintered electrodes 6, 7 separated by porous material 8 and separated from the parts 1, 2 of the metal casing by distance-pieces 4, 5. The surfaces of the electrodes which are moistened with electrolyte are in contact with the gas spaces 11, 12. The electrodes may be arranged vertically, each pair of positive and negative electrodes being separated from one another by a porous separator, and each pair being separated from an adjacent pair by distance-pieces. In other constructions, the electrodes, separators and distance-pieces are rolled up into spiral form. |
