<P>PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a high voltage generating circuit which is constructed using comparatively inexpensive components and has less consumption current and discharge possibility, and can output a high voltage in good balance between positive and negative pulses without lowering output voltage. Ž<P>SOLUTION: The high voltage generating circuit has a positive side high voltage generating portion 10P having a first voltage doubler rectifier circuit 9P to output a positive voltage pulse and a negative side high voltage generating portion 10N having a second voltage doubler rectifier circuit 9N to output a negative voltage pulse, and the output voltages of the positive side and the negative side high voltage generating portions 10P, 10N are added to be output. The connecting points 21P, 21N of the Zener diode and the capacitor at the last stage in the voltage doubler rectifier circuits 9P, 9N are directly connected, and connected to the output terminal 23 through a current limiting resistor 8.
