<P>PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a method of producing a luminescent yarn enabling many cracks on the optical fiber in its forming process. Ž<P>SOLUTION: The method for producing the luminescent yarn emitting light from its surface includes the following process: an optical fiber 12 is helically wrapped, under tension and at a predetermined pitch, around a core yarn 11, thus effecting the formation of many cracks on the surface of the optical fiber 12. In the process, while various levels of the diameters d1 and d2 of the core yarn 11 and the optical fiber 12 may be selected; as one example, a core yarn of 0.25-1.0 mm in diameter and an optical fiber of 0.25-0.5 mm in diameter may be combined with each other.
