PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To automatically generate a spectral estimation image according to a type of a subject. SOLUTION: An edge portion EP of an endoscope image P is extracted and a complexity degree CD of the edge portion EP is detected. A determination is made as to whether the endoscope image is an image obtained through near view imaging or distant view imaging of the subject according to the complexity degree CD and, in the determined near view imaging and distant view imaging, the spectral estimation image SP is generated by changing a matrix parameter M and performing a matrix operation of the endoscope image P.
