PURPOSE: A display apparatus and a control method thereof are provided to control external image processing device by HDMI CEC(High-Definition Multimedia Interface Consumer Electronics Control) communication thereby displaying contents easily. CONSTITUTION: A control unit(40) grasps external image processing unit(300) communicating with contents provider(400) providing requested contents among a plurality of external image processing devices. The control unit transmits power on signal to the external image processing device. The control unit transmits reception command of contents to the external image processing device. The control unit receives buffering completion signal of the contents from the external image processing device. A display unit(10) displays the contents.
