<P>PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To more accurately diagnose current condition of an internal combustion engine and an exhaust gas recirculation device in a hybrid vehicle including the internal combustion engine, to which the exhaust gas recirculation device for re-circulating exhaust gas to intake air is fitted. <P>SOLUTION: When performing load operation of an engine first after turning the ignition on during a stop of a vehicle, ignition control (S100, S110, S140-S160), intake air quantity control, fuel injection control and intake valve opening/closing timing control of the engine are performed to perform the load operation of the engine by adjusting the ignition timing (adjustment value J) so that knock strength Kr becomes close to a predetermined strength K1. The adjustment value J when the knock strength Kr becomes close to the predetermined strength K1 is learned (S120, S130).
