<p><P>PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide an improved technique for addressing transducers in a two-dimensional transducer array. <P>SOLUTION: According to embodiments of the technique, a system and a method for addressing transducers (22) in the two-dimensional transducer array (20) are disclosed. According to one embodiment of the present technique, the transducers (22) are arranged in rows and columns, and the columns are coupled to a shared transmit and receive circuitry (37, 38) while the rows are coupled to a row selection circuitry (28).
