<P>PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a sewing machine which when sewing a first stitch after setting an intermittent presser foot and a throat plate in the same position in starting sewing, prevents the intermittent presser foot from colliding with the throat plate thereby preventing generation of noise due to the collision between the intermittent presser foot and the throat plate in bobbin winding processing. Ž<P>SOLUTION: When the bobbin winding processing is performed, a default value stored in a RAM 64 is first read to lift the intermittent presser foot 6 to a position shown by the default value (5 mm above an upper surface of the throat plate 2a) (S30). Then, a sewing machine motor 72 is started to perform bobbin winding processing by a bobbin winding mechanism 50. When the bobbin winding processing is performed, a start pedal 70 enters an OFF waiting state. When a worker turns off the start pedal 70 (S32: Yes), the sewing machine motor 72 is stopped (S33), after that, the intermittent presser foot 6 is lowered to a preset position (S34), then operation of the sewing machine is returned to the S3.
