The method involves determining gas torque characteristics based on control signals (AS) indicating speed characteristics of an internal combustion engine (2). An attribute of the torque characteristics is extracted and selected such that a deviation of the attribute of the torque characteristics is definitely allocated to a deviation of a value of an air system parameter. Deviation of the attribute of the torque characteristics is determined from a preset reference value. Deviation information is provided based on the deviation of the attribute of the torque characteristics. Independent claims are also included for the following: (1) a device for determining deviation information of an air system parameter of an air supply section of an internal combustion engine (2) a computer program including program codes to implement a method for determining deviation information of an air system parameter of an air supply section of an internal combustion engine when the program codes are executed in a data processing unit.
