摘要 <P>PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide an enhanced image without causing an overshoot even when an input image includes a folding component on a high frequency component side or does not include sufficient high frequency component. <P>SOLUTION: In a first intermediate image generation means 1, an intermediate image D1 from which a component in a specific frequency band of the input image DIN is extracted is generated. In a second intermediate image generation means 2, an intermediate image D2 having a higher frequency component than the intermediate image D1 is generated. In an intermediate image processing means 3M, an intermediate image D3M in which pixel values of the intermediate image D1 are amplified is generated. In an intermediate image processing means 3H, an intermediate image D3H in which pixel values of the intermediate image D2 are amplified is generated. In an addition means 4, the input image DIN, the intermediate image D3M, and the intermediate image D3H are added to obtain an output image DOUT.
