PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide an imaging apparatus which improves accuracy of panning determination to reduce occurrence of unnatural motion during panning and after the end of panning. SOLUTION: A signal obtained by processing output resulting from cutting a DC component included in an angular velocity signal from an angular velocity sensor 101 through a DC cut filter 102 and a signal obtained by integrating through a motion vector integrator 123 motion vector output detected by a motion vector detection circuit 120 are used to determine whether or not an imaging apparatus is in a panning state or in a tilting state.
