The method involves guiding a printed sheet to a foil transfer from a coating side of a transfer foil (5) to a coating unit (2). The printed sheet is guided to an adhesive imprint through a downstream coating head (1). The transfer foil is turned by a turning station and guided to the coating unit. The transfer foil is led to the printed sheet with the coating side lying opposite to another coating side. Cold foil transfer of the latter coating side is executed, and one or more color printing is performed by an additional printing unit (50). An independent claim is also included for a device for transferring imaging layers of a transfer film on a printed sheet by a coating unit.
