<P>PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a transfer unit capable of suppressing the generation of "a liquid ring phenomenon", and to provide an image forming apparatus that has such a transfer unit. Ž<P>SOLUTION: The transfer unit includes: an intermediate transfer belt (transfer medium) for carrying an image developed with liquid developer containing toner particles and liquid carrier; and a cleaning roller 8R for removing the liquid developer by abutting on the intermediate transfer belt. The width in axial direction of the cleaning roller 8R is smaller than the width in axial direction of the intermediate transfer belt. The diameter of the cleaning roller 8R decreases toward the center from end side in axial direction. The transfer unit also has a squeeze roller that squeezes by abutting on the intermediate transfer belt.
