In a stored programme computer means are provided for selectively checking the instructions. In known computers, a checking programme can be utilized which is arranged to select the main programme instructions sequentially, each instruction being executed and the instruction, the contents of the arithmetic unit and the contents of any address in the computer store contained in the instruction being recorded by the computer output. According to the invention, the instructions contain a portion to control the checking and means are provided for checking only certain of the instructions, said means including a register for registering the checking control portion of the instructions. As described, the checking control portion comprises two binary digits, one combination indicating that no checking is required, and the other three combinations indicating that checking is required, with different conventions for printing out. The checking control digits are read from the store by a signal applied at a terminal 7 to " and " gates 5, 6, and registered in bi-stable stages 19, 20 of a register 18. The stages 19, 20 control " and gates 14, 16 arranged in the inputs to further stages 21, 22 of the register 18, which gates receive inputs also from instruction function letter groups F 1 , F 3 and F 2 , F 3 respectively, the instruction function letter groups F 1 , F 2 , F 3 being groups of individual instruction function letter decoding stores. The groups F 1 , F 2 , F 3 control the required output action for example in respect of which units of the computer require their data to be printed out. The information in the register 18 is read out by pulses applied sequentially to " and " gates 23, 25, 27, 29. |
