PURPOSE: A wire rope cleaning system and a method using dry ice are provided to remove foreign material from a waste wire rope by freezing at a super low temperature. CONSTITUTION: A wire rope cleaning system comprises a first and a second transferring units(10,40), a cleaning station(20), and a cutting unit(30). The second transferring unit holds a wire rope(100), and transfers to the first distance. The second transferring unit is carried to the second distance unit in a regular interval. The second transferring unit successively transfers the wire rope to a length unit corresponding to the second distance. The cleaning station cleans the wire rope transferring to the second length unit through the first and the second transferring units by emitting dry ice for a time and washes the wire rope. The cutting unit cuts the wire rope at the first length unit.
