PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To shorten processing time in the compensation process conducted for faces in image data. SOLUTION: An organ detecting part 19 detects a face of in the image data. A number of persons detecting part 181 detects the number of faces detected in the image data based on the face detecting result by the organ detecting part 19. A characteristic determining part 183 determines characteristics of the faces detected in the image data based on the face detecting result by the organ detecting part 19. A face selecting part 185 selects faces satisfying the predetermined compensating conditions from the detected faces based on the detection result by the number of persons detecting part 181 and on the determination result by the characteristic determining part 183.
