829,867. Electric space heating systems. TYRAD ELECTRIC Ltd., [formerly PYRAD ELECTRIC Ltd.], and PARKER, W. F. April 13, 1956 [March 18, 1955], No. 8041/55. Class 39(3) [Also in Group XXXVI] An electric space heating system for buildings comprises a recessed channel for supply cables, a plurality of tubular housings embedded, for example, in a concrete floor to extend laterally from the channel and receiving a plurality of heating elements, and connector units respectively connecting ends of said tubular housings to said channel and for providing electrical connections between the elements and the supply cables. As shown, heating elements 20 are housed in a series of steel tubes 23 and are connected by connector units (Fig. 3, not shown) to supply cables 18 carried in a channel 11 which may be divided longitudinally to house other service cables 19. The system utilizes the heat storage potential of the building structure and overall operation is controlled by means of a time switch and thermo-time regulator. The heating elements may be arranged in groups for heating individual areas and each group may be thermostatically controlled, the thermostats being actuated by ambient temperature, floor temperature, or both. Where high current ratings are required the switched connections may be operated via contactors (Fig. 6, not shown). |
