In a dental tool holder the shank of the tool is gripped in a resilient sleeve 1 which is mounted in the driving member 14 of the handpiece. At least one end of the sleeve is slit, as at 16, to form tongues which are bent slightly radially inward to ensure a firm frictional grip on the tool shank, and the sleeve may be secured by screwing or pressing into position. To allow the necessary freedom of movement, the sleeve is of slightly reduced external diameter over a length at least equal to that of the slits 16 and a clearance space 17 is ensured by the provision of a shoulder 18. The tool shank is centred in an axial recess 19 and it may be pressed out, when not required, by a rod inserted through a hole 22. The clamping sleeve may be applied to geardriven or air turbine handpieces. |
