The method involves determining a local measure for position deviation of image data sets. Partial areas in the image data sets are determined by a connected-component-labeling method, where the areas correspond to an object, and the local measure of the data sets exceeds a local limiting value. Largest of the partial areas is strongly registered, where the local measure for the position deviation is a difference corresponding to an image point value of the image data sets. The local measure and/or an entire measure are determined only for a lower range of the data sets or partial areas.
