The method involves directing radiation (18) from a light source (20) to a measuring cell (22). A portion (16) of the radiation is reflected or transmitted by the measuring cell is detected as a measuring signal (12) by a spectral detector (34). Another portion (36) of the radiation, which is directed on a reference standard (38), that is reflected or transmitted by the reference standard is detected as a reference signal (14) by the spectral detector. The reference and measuring signals are modulated by a medium e.g. micro electromechanical system. An independent claim is also included for a device for detecting a measuring signal.
