In the spinning of viscose into a first aqueous bath containing sulphuric acid, sodium sulphate and zinc sulphate followed by a second heated aqueous bath containing sulphuric acid in lower concentration than in the first bath, the viscose contains (a) a polyethylene glycol, an ethoxylated amine, a fatty acid, or a fatty alcohol, an amine, a polyamine, a quaternary ammonium base or an ethoxylated derivative thereof and (b) a soluble alkali metal sulphate, nitrate or chloride in the proportion of 3-50 grams per kg. of viscose. A third or intermediate aqueous bath (which may also contain 0,5-5% by weight of formaldehyde) may be interposed between the first and second baths, the third bath containing the same constituents as the first bath, but in lower concentration. In the example, viscose containing per kg. 30 grams of sodium sulphate and 1,5 grams of an ethoxylated coconut oil amine of molecular weight about 1,100 and general formula:- <FORM:0864821/IV (a)/1> in which n is 8 to 14 and x+y=about 20, is spun into a first aqueous bath at 48 DEG C. containing 4,3% sulphuric acid, 13% sodium sulphate, and 6% zinc sulphate, followed by an intermediate aqueous bath at 30 DEG C. containing per kg. 22 grams sulphuric acid, 90 grams sodium sulphate, 38 grams zinc sulphate and 18 grams formaldehyde and finally followed by an aqueous bath at 95 DEG C. containing 15 grams/kg. of sulphuric acid. Threads produced according to the invention have low elongation values and high strength values.
|
