PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a new transformed plant having cold resistance and to provide a method for imparting the cold resistance to a plant by discovering an excellent gene hardly affecting the growth of a plant body and capable of imparting the cold resistance to the plant body. SOLUTION: It was found that the cold resistance can be imparted to the rice by the excessive expression of OsPIP1;3 gene in the rice. The finding that the cold resistance can be imparted to the rice is new discovery although it is known that the OsPIP1;3 gene of the rice encodes an aquaporin protein associated with water permeability.
