A method of instant messaging which belongs to the communication technology domain is provided. The method includes that: the social information which carries the type identifier, content and initiator of the social information event is received; the type of the social information event and the user behavior reference corresponding to the type of the social information event are obtained according to the type identifier of the social information event; the social information, the type of the social information event and the corresponding user behavior reference are sent to the instant messaging (IM) client; the IM client displays at least one of the initiator of the social information event, the content of the social information event, the type and the corresponding user behavior reference of the social information event. Accordingly, a server, an instant messaging (IM) client and an instant messaging system are also provided. The least exchange could be allowed for the user to trace the whole activation by combining the whole social information obtained by the user together.
