<P>PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a surgical buttress for use with a surgical stapling apparatus. <P>SOLUTION: The surgical stapling apparatus includes: an end effector having a first jaw and a second jaw, the first jaws having a distal end and a side face; a plurality of fasteners disposed in fastener slots of the first jaw, wherein fastener forming pockets is provided to the second jaw; and a surgical buttress having a band and side skirt, wherein the band is connected to the first jaw and surrounds the distal end of the first jaw, and the side skirt is engaged with the side surface of the first jaw, wherein a body portion of the surgical buttress is configured so as to substantially overlap at least some of the fastener slots of the first jaw, and has such a size. <P>COPYRIGHT: (C)2010,JPO&INPIT |
